An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, caring and motivated Band 7 nurse or midwife specialist sonographer, ideally with experience in first trimester scanning, has arisen within our Gynae Day Assessment unit (GDAU) & Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) based at Watford General hospital.

The two units work to provide expert specialist care for women experiencing early pregnancy complications and acute gynaecological problems.  Time would be spent rotating between both units, independently undertaking regular ultrasound clinics as well as providing comprehensive nurse-led care.

You will need to possess excellent leadership/management qualities in order to enhance the delivery of this service, as the role will require supervising junior colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the unit, arranging clinical or ultrasound assessments as well as thorough assessment of patients and results to provide individualised plans of care. Working in a highly emotional environment and dealing with patients who are often distressed, the candidate will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, whilst maintaining an empathetic and professional approach.

The applicant must be a registered nurse or midwife with proven knowledge and skills in Women’s Health including pregnancy loss, with a minimum of PGCert in ultrasound for Early pregnancy/obstetrics. Gynaecology Ultrasound PGCert or higher is also desirable. An interest in teaching ultrasound is important as the unit actively supports staff development.
