The opportunity has arisen for a full time Band 6 Nurse to join the team of a busy Pre-operative Assessment department at St Albans City Hospital.

The hours are 4 x 8-6pm Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

Band 6 - Junior sister / Charge Nurse - Pre Operative Assessment

The role of the band 6 nurse is to undertake pre-operative assessment of patients awaiting elective surgery across a wide range of specialities, ensuring patients are prepared physically & psychologically for surgery whilst minimising short notice cancellations.

 

The post holder must demonstrate evidence of personal development, possess good communication skills, have knowledge & experience in the care of the surgical patient, and have good leadership & time management skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will have responsibility for assessing the adult patients’ fitness for        anaesthesia prior to elective surgery at West Hertfordshire NHS Hospitals Trust. To note and organise specific needs resulting from the assessment of patients for action by nursing,             medical or paramedic staff.  Instigate nursing, medical, and support services for    patients prior to           admission.  To liaise in advance of admission date with individual ward,       theatre, and admission        office with regards special needs.

Training - Undertake personal professional development, ensuring compliance with WHHT       compliance and NMC regulations. Provide support for colleagues in their professional development. To assist in the training, competency, and confidence to practice for new members of staff.
