West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust wishes to appoint a Substantive Consultant Geriatrician with an interest in Frailty.
Main duties of the job
Consultant in Frailty
The post will involve providing an acute geriatrician consult to the emergency department and the acute assessment unit and assessing appropriate patients identified & admitted to the frailty unit, which is geared towards same-day discharge or shortened length of stay.

We offer a range of more specialist services to a wider population, serving residents of North London, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and East Hertfordshire.
It has three hospitals (Watford General, St Albans City Hospital and Hemel Hempstead Hospital). The trust also manages an outpatient physiotherapy unit at Abbotts Langley. The Watford site is by far the biggest and is the focus for the trust’s emergency and specialised care. The trust provides a range of more specialist services to a wider population, serving residents of north London, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and east Hertfordshire.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful applicant will join a friendly and dedicated team consisting of a Consultant Geriatrician, nurses, therapists and junior doctors, who provide a Monday-Friday service. In time, an older person rapid assessment unit is planned for patients who are identified in the community as at risk of imminent hospital admission and in need of a comprehensive geriatric assessment. The successful applicant will also have responsibility (shared with existing Consultant) for a 12-bedded Dual Frailty Unit ward for older patients with cognitive impairment as well as medical problems. There is a well-established Delirium Recovery Pathway to facilitate early discharges in these patients and regular input from a dedicated old-age psychiatrist.
It is also expected that the successful applicant will be part of GIM and duty Geriatrician on call duties.
