We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Occupational Therapist to join our award winning and dynamic Inpatient Therapy team at Watford Hospital.

Are you a qualified Occupational Therapist enthusiastic and passionate about working with older persons with complex needs? Are you confident in your clinical, skills, able to offer the appropriate advice and support on complex cases/discharge planning to more junior members of the team?
Do you have excellent communication and time management skills? Are you resilient and able to offer a mature and tactful approach to problem solving, and effective interpersonal and leadership skills?

This post may be the one for you. Not only will you have a role on our Care of the Elderly wards in terms of caseload management and Therapy leadership; but you will also have the opportunity to work alongside Senior Therapists from our Frailty Unit, completing comprehensive geriatric assessments and to assist in out-reach across Watford Hospital Wards.

The post-holder will also form an integral part of our award winning West Hertforshire Hospitals NHS Trust Delirium Recovery Pathway.
West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust have been recognised for outstanding practice in relation to dementia care and the delirium recovery pathway which aims to reduce length of stay; readmissions; anti-psychotic prescribing and promotes cognitive and physical functioning and health and wellbeing for patients.

With the introduction of the pathway, patients with delirium benefit from an early and highly supported hospital discharge with an individualised plan of care. Patients may avoid the need for long term residential placement by being discharged with a 24 hour live in carer.

In terms of support and personal development, there are 3 full time Band 7 Occupational Therapists within the Care of the Elderly Team so you will certainly benefit from robust peer support, as well as a well-established probationary, supervision and appraisal process. We also are able to support our Band 7 staff through the Trust’s leadership programme.

The Inpatient Therapy service would welcome applications from full time and part time candidates. Of note is that the service is 7 day working. This post would be included in that rota (frequency of 1:6 weekends) with rest days in the following week.

So, if you think you have the skills to do the job, please apply. If short-listed you will have the opportunity to discuss proposed working patterns, at interview.
