Job overview
An exciting opportunity to progress your physiotherapy career within our well established and dynamic therapy service. This includes rotations through both inpatients and outpatients allowing the post holder to gain experience within varied settings. The rotations are 4 months and rotate through; Care of the Elderly, Medicine, Respiratory including ITU, Surgical (incl Amputees), MSK Outpatients, Paediatrics, Acute Stroke Unit, and Orthopaedics – trauma and elective.
Each rotation is supported by a robust senior tier with a wealth of experience to help guide and support in both your individual learning needs but to also strive to ensure that the best standards of care are provided. A well established supervision, probationary, preceptorship and appraisal process is in place to help facilitate this. We also offer In-Service training opportunities and experience will be gained in the informal supervision of assistants when appropriate.
Main duties of the job
A busy district general with most of the main caseload now centralised at Watford General Hospital , with elective orthopaedic service which is at St Albans City Hospital. As a Trust we have one of the largest Acute Assessment Units which provides opportunities to provide rapid but comprehensive assessments to help support patients to the most appropriate place of care. We have established strong relationships with our community bedded counterparts and community team colleagues, including rapid response and early supported discharge for stroke, to enable best patient care. We have a Frailty Unit service and delirium recovery pathway. We have a 19 bedded ITU offering opportunities to enhance critical care management both in respiratory and rehabilitation.
We operate 7 day working and this post would be included in that rota (frequency of usually a 1:6 weekend but can vary) with rest days in the following week, along with a requirement to be on the Respiratory on call evening rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To deliver a complex package of high quality healthcare including assessment, treatment and advice to patients with various needs in a variety of settings.
· To participate in the Junior Rotational scheme which involves ITU, Surgery, Medical, Outpatients, Orthopaedics, Care of the Elderly, Paediatrics and Stroke.
- The rotations are across Watford, St. Albans and Jackets field/ Abbots Langley.
· To assess and treat own caseload of patients and maintain own records as an autonomous practitioner.
· To communicate with relevant medical and nursing staff, social workers, and other health care professionals, and patients relatives and carers who may be in direct contact with the postholder with regard to patient care in order to facilitate a team approach to patient care.
· To actively participate in Continuous Professional Development and departmental educational and training activities.
· Postholder to have clinical supervision on a regular basis by a more senior member of the team. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences and reflective practices.
- To undertake the out of hours on-call duties overnight and at weekends (working autonomously).
- To participate in the Service’s 7 day working service.

To actively participate in working over a seven day roster, fulfilling contractual hours of 37.5 hours a week.
